Just like cars and bikes, electric stand-up scooters come in all sizes and shapes, and serve different purposes.

Using the wrong scooter type might bring you more inconveniences than benefits, which is why I invite you to join me in this review and take a look at the four main categories. I will also be sharing with you my personal favorite models in each category. Over the years, I’ve tried and reviewed dozens of escooters and I will be sharing with you what I think are the best of the best.

Best Electric Scooter

City Electric Scooters

Lightweight, portable and easy to maneuver, city escooters are those you want to use for your daily commute. The models in this category have a max range of around 25 km and speed of up to 35 km/h – you don’t need anything faster than that because most countries and cities have speed limitations for eEcooters anyway.

Thanks to the smaller battery and motor, city scooters can be easily carried around – it should not cause too much trouble to carry the folded scooter into a public transport, a shop, or anywhere else.

Best Electric Scooters for City Rides

1

Dualtron Spider

Lightweight, fast and durable, the Dualtron Spider is my personal #1 choice for the daily commute. Manufactured by Minimotors – a well-known and respected company, the Spider takes everything we love about the previous Dulatron models (such as the popular Thunder) and makes it even better.

A commuter during business days and a racing scooter on the weekends, the Dualtron Spider can reach a top speed of 65 Kmh (40 MPH) thanks to its dual motors rated 800 W each. With a max distance of 70 Km (43 Mi) and the possibility to add a second battery, the Dualtron Spider is more than enough to take you to the office, university or shopping mall.

Usually, big motors and batteries weigh a lot but the Dualtron Spider manages to stay at a reasonable 20 Kg (44 lb) mark. It’s not the lighter scooter out there but it is still can be carried to the train or metro. It’s very compact when folded.

The only downside is its price. If you want a great commuter but don’t want to spend two grands and a half on it, the following options might be what you’re looking for. Read the full review here.

Dualtron Spider Specifications:
  • Weight: 20 Kg (44 lb)
  • Top Speed: 65 Kmh (40 MPH)
  • Range: 70 Km (43 Mi)
  • Load capacity: 120 Kg (264 lb)
  • Battery: LG Lithium-Ion 60V 17.5Ah
  • Motor: Max 3,600W, dual motors rated 800 W each
  • Charging Time: 9 Hours with 2A Charger | 3.5 Hours with 6.5A Charger

E-Twow Booster V

Designed and manufactured by a Romanian company, the E-Twow Booster V is the beefiest of the bunch. With a load capacity of up to 125 Kg (275 lb), the Booster V is a great choice for those of us who are taller and heavier.

Despite being heavy duty, the Booster V also happens to be one of the lighter scooters in this list. By weighting only 11.3 Kg (25 lb) (battery included), the scooter is extremely easy to carry. Combine that with the fact that is has narrow, foldable handles and you get a scooter than you can carry with you anywhere you go.

This also means that the Booster V complies with maximum scooter weight regulations in certain countries such as Singapore. If you plan on traveling to a different country and want to take your scooter with you (which is often a great idea), the Booster V is hands down the perfect companion.

E-Twow Booster V Specifications:
  • Weight: 11.3 kg
  • Top Speed: 36 kmh (22 mph)
  • Range: 40 km (25 miles)
  • Load capacity: 125 kg
  • Battery: Li-Ion, 36 V, 10,5Ah Samsung
  • Motor: 500W Brushless
  • Charging Time: 3-4 Hours

Ninebot ES2 / ES4

The Ninebot ES2 is gorgeous, cheap and lightweight. Unlike most other scooters in its price category, the ES2 offers high-end features such as an LCD screen that gives you access to advanced stats and options, as well as other features such as a frontal spring suspension, fully customizable animated colored LED lighting and theft protection.

The ES2 feels like a high-end model thanks to those handy and cool additions. The LED lighting alone gives your scooter +200 coolness points – not only you can make it any color, you can also program and animate it the way you want to from the official Ninebot app. Amaze your friends, make your colleagues jealous and be easier to notice at night.

Now, the rest of the scooter (the hardware) feels very decent too. While not as heavy duty as the Booster V, the ES2 can carry up to 100 Kg (220 lb) and reach a maximum speed of 25km/h (15.5 mph).

In addition to that, you can add a secondary battery to extend max distance to 45km (28Mi) and increase its top speed to 30 km/h (19 mph) – the model that already comes with the battery attached is called the Ninebot ES4.

If you’re looking for a scooter that feels premium, the Ninebot ES2 (full review) is definitely a great option to consider.

Xiaomi M365

The Xiaomi M365 is so ridiculously popular that it is the first thing that comes to people’s mind when they hear the word “scooter”. What makes it so successful?

First of all, the Xiaomi is very cheap and accessible – For only 400 dollars, you get a fully functional, sturdy and pretty fast vehicle for your daily commute. Its sturdy aluminum frame can carry up to 100 Kg (220 lb) and its 250W brushless motor allows you to reach a speed of 25 Kmh (15.5 MPH). Besides, it features an above average gradeability and acceleration.

The Xiaomi M365 is an urban scooter, meant to be used to get you to the metro train station and back. With a max range of 30 Km (18.6 Mi) per charge and a charge time of 5 hours, it’s a scooter with the most limited range of the bunch, so keep that in mind.

That aside, the Xiaomi M365 (full review) is a very polished model that gets the job done. It’s also one the only scooter in this price category that has double disk brakes and ultra bright LED headlights.

Xiaomi M365 Specifications:
  • Weight: 12 kg
  • Top Speed: 25 kmh (15.4 mph)
  • Range: 30km (18.6 miles)

Ninebot ES1

Priced the same as the Xiaomi M365 we just talked about, the ES1 is slower but offers some extra features you might love. While the M365 is more like an “in your face” workhorse, the Ninebot ES1 is meant for those who are willing to sacrifice some of the motor power and range in exchange for some extra comfort.

Just like its older brother the ES2, the ES1 comes with spring shocks that makes the ride more comfortable. Besides, it comes with solid rubber tires that don’t get flats – this alone can save you a lot of trouble in the long run.

The scooter features an LCD screen that shows you everything you want to know – your current speed, battery life, etc. Besides, you can use it to configure your scooter without the need to use a phone.

Compared to other scooters in this list, the ES1 (full review) is the slowest one – its max speed is 20km/h (12.4 mph), which is still enough to drive in a crowded city. If you want more, you can install a secondary battery – not only it will increase your distance from 25 km (15.5 Mi) to 45 km (28 Mi), it will also increase your max speed to 25km/h (15.5 mph).

Ninebot ES1 Specifications:
  • Weight: 11.3 kg
  • Top Speed: 20 kmh (12.4 mph)
  • Range: 25km (15.5 miles)
  • Load capacity: 100 kg Battery: 187wh

Long Distance Electric Scooters

Those of you who look forward to travel between cities and/or live in rural areas might be interested more in scooters that offer longer battery life. Nothing comes for free and the scooters we will be mentioning here are heavier and more expensive than those in the previous category. In exchange, you get a reliable electrical vehicle that can travel anywhere from 60-180 km of distance in one charge.

Best Electric Scooters for Long Distance

About 50% cheaper than the Dualtron Thunder (on sale), the Ultra is a great scooter for long distance trips.

It comes with the same dual motors rated 2,700 W each, allowing it to achieve a speed of 80 Km/h (49 MPH). Battery-wise, it packs enough charge for up to 120 Km (74 Mi), which can get up to 120 Km when using only one engine.

The scooter is packed with electronics that give you access to all the information you need and allow you to control anything you want about the scooter. Are you in a rush? No problem, you can turn the turbo mode on to unleash the full power of your Dualtron Ultra (full review). Want something a bit slower? Use four different parameters to customize your ride the way you want it. You can even go as far as decreasing the acceleration power to make it easier for beginners to start the ride.

Dualtron 3

The Dualtron 3 is a very successful model that redefined what a racing escooter is. It was the first scooter to come with fully-functional ABS. Combine that with two powerful brushless motors and 15-step adjustable suspension (3-step angle adjust together with 5 types of rubber cartridges), and you get a high-end, comfortable vehicle.

Even though the Dualtron 3 came before the Ultra and the Thunder, it is still a very popular and very used model, for a reason.

The Dualtron 3 stands somewhere in the middle between its two successors. On one hand, it is as cheap as the Ultra. On the other hand, it features the 15-step adjustable suspension system we love so much in the Thunder. The Dualtron 3 comes with the same comprehensive LCD dashboard, powerful LED headlights, taillights and brake lights, and the disk/hydraulic brake combo any racing scooter needs.

This model has a top speed of 65 Km/h (40 MPH) with a maximum range of 120 Km (74 Mi) when going at a speed of 25 km/h (15 Mph). When using the right charger, its battery can be fully charged in under 3,5 hours. If you’re traveling between towns, the Dualtron 3 is definitely a great choice.

FLJ K3

The K3 by FLJ is a heavy-duty, high-speed escooter. Unlike other models in this price category, the K3 can carry up to 180 kg (396 lb) and reach a top speed of 85 kh/h (52 Mph).

This model can be easily identified by its two huge frontal suspension cylinders. For an escooter, the K3 offers an extremely smooth ride – besides the huge suspension, this model comes with inflatable 11 inch tires. Oh and let’s not forget that the scooter can be used with a seat that also has its own spring suspension for maximum comfort.

Now, the K3 comes in 8 different configurations. Depending on how much you want to invest, you can choose between four LG battery types – the range goes from 70 km (43 mi) for the cheapest battery up to 130 km (80 mi) for the most expensive one. The seat is optional too.

Off-Road Electric Scooters

Off-road scooters are usually those that can easily ride on stone-paved roads, grass and gravel roads. This category of scooters is known for featuring high-end suspension and a beefier, sturdier frame that can withstand a lot of abuse. That being said, I still wouldn’t use an escooter as a replacement to a mountain bike; Instead, I’d get one if I lived in a town with poor road quality and/or lots of hills and slopes.

Best Off Road Electric Scooters

1

Dualtron Ultra

Besides being a great scooter for long distance trips, the Dualtron Ultra also proved to be a great option for off-road racing. Its powerful motors, sturdy frame and ultra-durable dual suspension make it a reliable companion on the roughest roads.

Thanks to the dual 2400 W motors (with a peak power of 5400 W), the Ultra can climb most slopes without an issue. Its suspension, together with inflatable tires absorb a big share of the bumps and vibrations, helping you to have a more enjoyable ride. Moreover, if you want even better traction with the road, you can use the specially designed off-road tires.

Overall, the Ultra is a very versatile scooter that excels in many areas.

Kaabo Wolf Warrior II

While not the fastest scooter listed here, the Kaabo Wolf Warrior II is a great option for off-road riding thanks to its sturdy and soft inverted hydraulic tube suspension. It is durable enough to endure abuse and soft enough to give you a smooth ride on gravel, cobblestone and grass.

If you plan on racing with friends, the Warrior II is definitely a great choice – besides being fast and having outstanding torque, it also looks professional and stylish. Some people still think that escooters are toys. They will definitely change their mind as soon as you will see you driving the Warrior II.

The scooter has all the functionalities you need, such as powerful double head and taillights and the advanced Ey3 LCD dahsboard with all the features you need (it is the same dashboard as on the Dualtron scooters). You can also add a second charger to cut charging times by half.

FLJ T113

The T113 is one of the cheapest off-road scooters that are good enough to be worth one’s money. Usually, the cheaper models that are labeled “off-road” are weak, flimsy or have bad suspension (if any). The T113 on the other hand is a solid escooter that I can personally recommend.

How does the T113 compare to its more expensive counterparts? Honestly, the difference isn’t that big. First of all, the T113 has a total power of 3600W (x2 motors 1600W each), which allows the scooter to move at a top speed of 65 Km/h (40 mph) with a load of 70 kg (154 lb).

It comes with three speed gears, a feature that is a must for an off-road escooter, and big, 11 inch inflatable wheels to make the ride smoother. Obviously, the scooter also has also spring suspension on both wheels.

Now, since the T113 is a cheaper model, it comes with less battery – expect a 60-80 Km (37-49 Mi) range if driving on somewhat flat surface. On the other hand, this also mean that this scooter is lighter than the rest in this category, which makes it easier to carry it around. Check FLJ T113 Review here

FLJ T113 Specifications:
  • Weight: Weight: 30 – 36 kg
  • Top Speed: 65 kmh (40 mph)

FLJ S8

One look at the S8 is enough to understand that this escooter is no toy. Its iconic double rail T-bar is equally sturdy, and badass-looking. This scooter’s reinforced frame was designed to withstand a lot of abuse. In fact, the amount of metallic parts makes the S8 the heaviest escooter in this list.

The S8 comes with double spring shocks and 11 inch inflatable fat tires. If you want, you can change those for on-road ones – with a top speed of 85 km/h (52 Mph), the S8 can be a great racing scooter too. Just like its brother the FLJ K3, the S8 comes in different configurations – depending on your needs, you might get a model with a range of up to 130 km (80 mi).

As a true off road scooter, the S8 has great acceleration – in fact, some people even say it has better throttle response than the average car. The scooter comes with 2x1600W brushless motors (3200 W total), three speed gears that allow you to better adjust to the road type and slope angle.

Overall, the S8 is a versatile off-road scooter that can be used both for long distance trips and for racing.

FLJ S8 Specifications:
  • Weight: Weight: 45 – 55 kg
  • Top Speed: 85 kmh (52 mph)
  • Range: 80km to 130km (depends on what batter you choose)
  • Load capacity: 180 kg

Electric Scooters for Kids

As a parent of two, I am always looking and testing scooters that would be suitable for kids. While I am a big supporter of physical activities and sports, I just can’t avoid sharing my passion for escooters with my kids, especially since both are fascinated with them anyway. I believe that as long as there is a balance, escooters can help to find more family activities.

From my experience, escooters proved to be safer than conventional bikes as long as your kids are wearing full protection on their elbows and knees, as well as a properly fit helmet.

Besides being lightweight and small, escooters for kids usually have a speed limit of around 10-15 Km/h (6-10 Mph). Some models have their speed hard capped by their motor power, while others have to be manually configured.

Best Electric Scooters for Kids

1

Razor E100 Glow

Designed for the oldest kids (8-10+ years old), the E100 is a very cool toy most boys will love to have. The E100 is hands down the best looking scooter in this list – it had a sleek design and it looks modern, though at the same time its LED lights and overly-cool design makes is look a bit like a toy, in the eyes of an adult. Kids seem to love it, though.

Talking about design, every time the throttle is twisted, two strips of colored LEDs power on. This obviously does not add to the practicality of the scooter but it looks really nice.

The E100 offers up to 40 minutes of ride per charge and a top speed of 16Km/h (10 Mph). So yeah, this scooter cannot be considered a serious means of transport, however it does come with both regenerative and foot brakes, making it easy to maneuver and control. Plus, this model comes with 8 inch pneumatic tires that add greatly to the comfort of the ride.

Razor E100 Specifications:
  • Weight: Weight: 14.5 kg (32 lbs)
  • Top Speed: 16 kmh (10 mph)
  • Range: 40 minutes per ride
  • Load capacity: 50 kg (120 punds)
  • Battery: 24V (two 12V) sealed lead acid rechargeable battery system
  • Charging Time: up to 12 hours
  • Size: Unfolded 89×21.5x43cm

Razor E90 Power Core

Priced at only $100 USD, the Power Core E90 is a great budget scooter that offers up to 80 minutes of continuous use and a top speed of 16Km/h (10 Mph). As small and as portable as the E100 we just reviewed, the E90 is more of a means of transport than a toy.

Unlike most other escooter in the price range, the Power Core E90 requires no maintenance because it has no chain nor parts that need to be lubricated. It’s also very easy to assemble and it’s completely fool-proof.

The scooter has a durable steel frame that can carry up to 54 Kg (120 lbs). In addition to that, the scooter is also pretty lightweight (10 kg / 22 lbs), so it’s not hard for a kid to control it, neither it is hard for an adult to carry it.

The push-button acceleration control has its advantages over the conventional twist grip throttle – some kids might find it easier to push a button, so I’d consider it a pro. Overall, the E90 is a great budget scooter for kids and a great Christmas/birthday gift.

Razor E90 Specifications:
  • Weight: Weight: 10 kg (22 lbs)
  • Top Speed: 16 kmh (10 mph)
  • Range: 80 minutes per ride
  • Load capacity: 55 kg (120 lbs)
  • Battery: 12V sealed lead acid rechargeable battery
  • Motor: 90 Watt Hub Motor

DX100

The most colorful scooter in this list, the DX100, comes in three different paint jobs, each with its unique style and feel: Electric Storm (blue and white), Graffiti (pink and yellow) and American Star (white, blue and red).

Some kids love to embellish their toys with stickers. The DX100 is colorful and has such an intricate paint pattern that it looks as if it were already fully customized.

With a 100W motor and 24V 4.5AH Lead Acid Battery, the DX100 can reach a top speed of 12 km/h (7 mph) and drive for up to 8 km (5 mi). That’s pretty impressive for a scooter worth only 100 dollars. Another thing I like about it is the belt drive motor. It makes the scooter slightly noisier, which makes it easier for pedestrians to hear it.

DX100 Specifications:
  • Weight: Weight: 10 kg (22 lbs)
  • Top Speed: 12 km/h (7 mph)
  • Range: 8 (5 mi)
  • Load capacity: 75 kg (165 lbs)

HF04368

This little lightweight scooter is the definition of coolness. It’s not the most powerful scooter out there, however it comes with full RGB lighting that looks stunning at night. Unlike the first two Razor scooters we just mentioned, the HF04368 is definitely a toy, though it can also be considered a great introduction to the world of scooters for kids.

Because of the pretty weak 40W brushless motor and light weight (3.7 kb/8 lb), the scooter suits perfectly the youngest kids – it’s rated 5+ and I can definitely say that 5-6 year old kids will find this model the easiest to handle.

This model comes with 4.5 inch solid tires – while harder than its inflatable counterparts, solid tires don’t get flats. This of course can save you a lot of trouble in the long run. Just make sure to find a good flat asphalt road for the kids to drive on – small wheels mean virtually no bump suppression.
